The city consists of two planned communities — Charbonneau south of the river and Villebois to the west.
Originally founded as Boones Landing, the town became Wilsonville in 1880. With a population of approximately 1,000, Wilsonville earned its incorporation as a city in 1969. Today, about 24,000 people call Wilsonville home. Families and young professionals make up the most significant part of the population.
Though the community enjoys a rather suburban and quiet vibe, its proximity to Portland means that public transportation (via Portland-based TriMet) quickly takes residents of Wilsonville to Downtown Portland for work or play.
