Newberg

Cherished as a fantastic place to savor fine wines.

Welcome to Newberg

A quaint town with the goodness of fine wine in a country setting.

Newberg is a quaint historic town in Yamhill County. Its illustrious history can be traced back to 1834 when the first settlers came to the Willamette River. The city’s oldest newspaper, The Newberg Graphic, was established in 1888 and remains in print today. Contrary to its humble beginnings and stature as a “dry” city, Newberg is cherished as a fantastic place to savor fine wines. Throughout Yamhill County, wineries are as abundant in the rolling hills that can be seen from this beautiful city.

Local Lifestyle

Those who long for a country lifestyle enjoy calling Newberg home. It is an area where most people own their homes and take full advantage of life in the great outdoors. However, because of the abundance of wineries, many also enjoy the finer things in life.

The city is filled with tree-lined sidewalks, parks, and many things to do. Mostly, you will find small shops to explore, family-owned diners, and other simple pleasures. The area maintains a small-town vibe that is a refreshing change of pace from larger cities.

Newberg residents can enter nature whenever they want. Some popular pastimes include hiking, bird watching, and fishing, and golf, and of course extensive winery options.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Newberg contains many places to find savory foods and eclectic shops to enjoy. SubTerra Kitchen & Cellar has an impressive menu that will tantalize your taste pallet. You can sample foods prepared using locally grown ingredients when you visit this restaurant. Gnocchi and steaks are two favorites here.

If you want American and French-styled foods, then The Painted Lady may be your go-to restaurant. Not only does this romantic Victorian restaurant offer tasty foods, but you will also be able to sample wine vintages from all over the globe. If this isn’t lavish enough, how about a five-course meal? That is what you will find at Rosmarino Osteria Italiana.

When seeking housewares and novelty items, the Antique, Freak and Flea may interest you. This quaint little shop has a large variety of antiques to add style and appeal to your home. There are dozens of wineries in Newberg, including Cliff Creek Cellars, which harvests grapes from their own vineyard to make wines that will stand the test of time. Another excellent option is Chehalem Winery Tasting Room & Bar, a long-standing location with a commitment to sustainability and respecting the land. A by-appointment-only location is Bells Up Winery. Run by a husband-and-wife duo, Bells Up Winery offers immersive and private wine-tasting tours. Bravuro Cellars, also run by a couple, is all about big, bold, hot-climate red wines, while Rain Dance Vineyards celebrates its Oregonian roots and five-generation-long heritage in the area. Don’t leave without stopping by King’s North Winery, founded based on two brothers’ love of wine.

To fully captivate the essence of wine country in style, and without the need of a designated driver, I highly recommend JMI Limousine. They proudly offer a premier wine tour designed to provide you with a safe, comfortable, and full-service experience that is sure to expand your knowledge and appreciation of Oregon’s beautiful wine country.

Things to Do

Once your desire for outstanding cuisine has been satisfied, you can venture out to participate in various other endeavors. For instance, those who love golfing should check out the Chehalem Glenn Golf Course. It is a challenging course against the beauty of wine country, making it a fantastic place to spend your day.

If you want a bird’s-eye view of the majestic wine fields, you should consider taking a hot air balloon ride at sunrise. Each adventure conducted by Vista Balloon Adventures lasts about two hours.

Art lovers will enjoy visiting the Anam Cara Cellars and one of their art events. All pieces are painted by a local artist, though most of the artwork pays tribute to the vineyards at Anam Cara Cellars. However, if you simply want to enjoy visiting a top wine cellar in Newberg, the place to be is Leah Jorgensen Cellars. Holiday events are hosted here, as well as daily shopping.
